18th ICID | International Congress on Infectious Diseases, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Welcome to the 18th ICID Website!

Dear Members, Colleagues, Sponsors and friends:

I am delighted to announce that the International Society for Infectious Diseases will hold its next International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID) in Buenos Aires, Argentina from the 1st to the 4th of March 2018. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the XVIII Congreso de la Sociedad Argentina de Infectología (SADI, the Infectious Diseases Society of Argentina) with the two societies collaborating to offer what will be an outstanding program of both regional and international expertise. The ISID has always had a particular focus on the global burden of infectious diseases and I am therefore very pleased that we are returning to South America after an interval of 18 years. This will provide us with a welcome opportunity to get to know better the many colleagues who work in Argentina and in other parts of the region.

The 18th ICID will encompass all of the fields of infectious diseases with particular attention being paid to the major challenges of the region including, of course, Zika, dengue and other related viral infections, AIDS, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and enteric and parasitic infections. ISID has been at the forefront of the One Health movement and this is reflected in our meetings, which also have a major focus on disease prevention and vaccine implementation. ISID meetings are distinguished by their unique blend of basic science and clinical practice. With state-of-the-art scientific presentations delivered by a global faculty with fi rst-hand experience and knowledge of the conditions that they discuss, ISID meetings are notable for the extraordinarily wide range of countries represented and the opportunity they afford for close exchange and communication between senior and junior colleagues. We are particularly proud of our provision for Fellows in training, exemplified by our Emerging Leaders in Infectious Diseases program.

ISID is a truly global society with over 80,000 members worldwide and a vibrant range of activities that includes ProMED, the fl agship global epidemic intelligence service, our biennial meeting on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IMED), a prestigious Fellowship program, the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, and much more. We are greatly looking forward to collaborating with our colleagues in South America and we hope you will be able to join us for what will be an outstanding meeting. I look forward to seeing you there.

The International Society for Infectious Diseases supports environmental sustainability. To save energy and reduce waste, ICID will not provide conference bags and all fliers and Congress announcements will be posted on the ICID website.
